The Complete Works of Justin Martyr

Justin Martyr wasn’t a fan of the Torah and there’s no hiding it. His dialogues are filled with allegations as to the wickedness of the Jews and assurances that they were incapable of understanding it in the first place. That much is particularly fascinating since the Law was intended to direct us to Messiah. So then if the Jews were incapable of identifying Messiah when he stood before them and also afterwards, how is it that they were trustworthy stewards of it? Justin makes an excellent case for their mismanagement and more. Be that as it may, it is a shame that Justin threw the baby out with the bathwater. Regardless of how one feels about his every conclusion, Justin Martyr is a fascinating fly-on-the-wall glance into the 2nd-century church. It may not be the full peripheral vision, as there were undoubtedly numerous competing views, but it is a window, and a window is better than nothing at all.
